June 2024
June only takes me to the water once…
…where I find the coot with its young. In the early morning, I find the female hen, who is very successful in catching prey to feed her young. At the end of her foray she has a catch full of mice. In the forest I find the badger’s den; here too there is a lot of activity. Badgers live sociably and the young badgers play like martens. The stonecrop is a chance find in my neighborhood; an old apple tree serves as its nesting den. While driving through our Lower Rhine landscape, I see the troop of red deer by chance, of course still in the bast. The stag beetle is a stroke of luck; I had never seen one of these rare specimens before.
